Do you need website SEO, Local SEO, or both? Start with how your customers find and choose your business. A shop serving nearby customers has different priorities from a business selling services across several regions.
I’m Shaheerali, an SEO and Local SEO specialist based in Malappuram. This guide explains how I help small business owners choose a useful starting scope before committing to paid work.
Start with your customers, location and enquiry route
Ask three questions: Who are you trying to reach? Where can you serve them? What should they do after finding you—call, ask for directions, send an enquiry or buy online?
Your answers help decide which pages, business information and contact routes need attention first. The choice does not need to be an all-or-nothing package.
When Local SEO is a useful starting point
Local SEO focuses on helping people discover and assess a business serving a particular area. It can involve your Google Business Profile, relevant website pages and consistent business information.
- You run an optical shop, clinic, restaurant or another business serving nearby customers.
- Customers need accurate opening hours, directions, services and contact details.
- Your profile and website give conflicting or incomplete information.
- You want to understand profile activity alongside enquiries you actually receive.
For example, an optical shop in Malappuram may need a clear profile, accurate contact details and a useful website page explaining its location and services. A general article attracting readers from places it cannot serve may be a lower priority.

When website SEO needs more attention
Website SEO helps people find and understand your website through relevant searches. My work can include checking whether important pages can appear in search, improving service content, organising internal links and checking the enquiry journey.
- Your customers compare services or products online before contacting you.
- You serve customers beyond one local area.
- Your main service pages do not clearly explain what you offer or who you help.
- Visitors reach your website but struggle to find evidence or a clear next step.
A remote service business, for example, may need detailed service pages, relevant supporting articles and evidence of its work. Its enquiry form and contact links also need to work reliably.

When your business needs both
A local business with a website often benefits from connected work. Someone may find your Google profile, visit the website to compare your services, then return later to call. The profile and website should explain the same business accurately and make the next step easy.
For a clinic, this might mean clear profile hours and contact details alongside useful treatment and location information on the website. For a restaurant, it might mean checking the menu route, location, opening hours and mobile contact options.
How I choose the first priorities
- Understand the business: confirm services, areas served, target customers and the enquiry route.
- Inspect the current presence: review the relevant public profile and website. Private performance data is reviewed only where access is authorised.
- Identify practical gaps: prioritise inaccurate information, unclear service content and broken contact routes before recommending more publishing.
- Agree a scope: explain deliverables, owner responsibilities, fees and how progress will be reviewed before paid work begins.
A free review can help you choose the next step
My free initial public Google Business Profile review identifies three priority improvements, why each matters to customers and the next action. Send your business name, town or service area, Maps link if available and main concern.
No account access is needed. This initial review does not include a full website audit, account changes, implementation or monthly management. You can act on the suggestions yourself or request a separate paid quote.
What evidence should you look for?
Look for a clear description of the work, dated evidence, the reporting period and the limits of the results. My Malabar Optics case study explains available Google Business Profile activity and separates it from confirmed business outcomes.
A direction request does not confirm a visit. A call-button click does not confirm a connected call. Website visits and WhatsApp clicks do not automatically mean genuine enquiries or paying clients.
How will we assess progress?
The measures depend on the agreed scope and available access. They may include relevant search visibility and clicks, activity on important pages, successful form submissions and profile interactions. We then review the enquiries you confirm and whether they fit your services and service area.
No ranking position, number of enquiries or sales result is guaranteed. The aim is to complete useful, agreed improvements and make decisions from evidence.
What should you do next?
If nearby customers are your priority, begin with the Local SEO service and free profile review. If your main concern is your website, send your website link, services, target areas and main concern so we can discuss the right scope.
Before comparing prices, read what a freelance SEO quote should include. A useful proposal explains the actual work and responsibilities, not just a monthly fee.
