Google Business Profile Calls and Directions: What My Malabar Optics Results Mean

A Google Business Profile report can show plenty of activity without telling you how many paying customers it brought in. My work with Malabar Optics & Eye Care in Muthiraparambu, Malappuram gives a practical example: 251 direction requests and 40 call actions were recorded for May–September 2026. Those figures are useful, but they need careful interpretation.

Evidence note: these are the previously verified figures published in my Malabar Optics Local SEO case study, checked on 2 October 2026. This article explains that dated evidence; it is not a new account audit or a report of October results. Written on 11 October 2026.

My role in the Malabar Optics project

I helped establish the shop’s Google Business Profile. The published case study describes work on business categories, opening hours, photos, the description and a process for requesting customer reviews. This is a profile setup and optimisation project. The performance totals alone cannot show which individual change produced an action, or establish a website SEO ranking improvement.

What the two figures actually measure

Reported actionMalabar Optics: May–September 2026What it does not establish
Direction requests251251 completed shop visits or customers
Call actions4040 answered calls, enquiries or sales

Google describes directions as requests for directions to the business and calls as clicks on the profile’s call button. A person can request directions without arriving, or tap the call button without completing a conversation. Read Google’s explanation of Business Profile performance for the metric definitions, checked on 11 October 2026.

I would not add these figures together and label the total “new customers.” The same person may take more than one action. Without a comparable earlier period and confirmed business outcomes, I would also avoid a growth percentage or a claim that optimisation generated a particular amount of revenue.

How I would turn a profile report into a useful business review

  1. Record the period and evidence date. Save the selected reporting dates and metric names so the next review compares like with like.
  2. Keep a work log. Note completed updates and dates separately from the performance totals. This gives context without claiming that one edit caused every action.
  3. Ask the owner about real enquiries. Track whether a call became a relevant conversation, appointment or sale. Where practical, ask how the customer found the business; record an unknown source as unknown.
  4. Choose the next action from the gap. If customers ask about opening times, check the published hours. If finding the entrance is difficult, review location information and genuine exterior photos. These are checks to investigate, not problems confirmed at Malabar Optics.

A simple enquiry log can contain the date, service requested, reported source, outcome and next follow-up. Keep it private and collect only what the business needs. Test submissions and test contact clicks should be labelled and excluded from genuine enquiry totals.

What this means for a business in Kerala

For an optical shop, clinic or other local business, profile activity is a useful starting point for a conversation about visibility. The more valuable question is what happened after the action: did someone reach the business, get the information they needed and become a suitable customer?

That is the reporting approach I recommend for paid Local SEO work: explain completed work, show the available profile actions and review confirmed enquiries separately. The Malabar Optics figures are one business’s dated results, not a forecast for another profile. Rankings and enquiry numbers are not guaranteed.
