Wrong Business Hours on Google Maps? A Guide for Kerala Business Owners

If Google Maps shows the wrong business hours, first check the correct listing, its regular schedule, date-specific hours and the status of your latest edit. Saving a change does not necessarily mean customers can already see it.

For a shop owner in Malappuram or elsewhere in Kerala, accurate hours help customers decide when to call or visit. This guide explains what to check without assuming every “Closed” label is an error.

1. Check the exact business and date

Open the public listing using your business name and town. Confirm the address and branch. Look at the day, time and any date-specific hours shown. A closed label may accurately reflect a break, a weekly closure or a holiday schedule.

Compare Google’s display with the actual hours when customers can receive service. Google’s business representation guidelines distinguish customer-facing hours from other schedules. Businesses operating only by appointment should review that guidance before adding regular opening hours.

2. Correct your regular weekly hours

Sign in to the Google account authorised to manage the business. Open its Business Profile, choose Edit profile → Hours, and edit the main schedule. Select the appropriate open days, enter their opening and closing times, then save. Check AM and PM carefully. Choose 24-hour opening only when that is true.

If customers cannot use the business during a daily break, enter two opening periods for that day.

Illustrative optical-shop example: a shop serving customers from 9 AM to 1 PM, then 3 PM to 8 PM, should show those two periods. A single 9 AM–8 PM interval would suggest it remains open during the break. This is a hypothetical example, not an audit finding for Malabar Optics.

See Google’s main-hours and breaks instructions. Controls may vary by device and interface.

3. Use special hours for holidays and one-off changes

A one-day change should not replace your normal weekly schedule. In the Hours section, open Special hours, select the affected date, and enter that day’s actual times or mark it closed. Save and review the date. Google recommends confirming official holiday hours even when they match your regular schedule.

Check any existing special-hours entry before assuming the main hours are wrong. Google says special hours require the profile to be set to Open with main hours. For an extended or indefinite closure, consult its closure instructions rather than treating the situation as an ordinary holiday.

Read Google’s special-hours guide and closure guidance.

4. Check whether the edit is accepted, pending or not approved

Google reviews profile edits. An accepted update is displayed; pending means review is ongoing; not approved means Google has not accepted the change. Its help page says review usually takes up to ten minutes but can sometimes take up to thirty days. That is not a guaranteed turnaround for your profile.

Google may also update information using reports from other sources. Review any alert in Edit profile. If an edit is rejected, follow the available appeal or support route. Keep a dated screenshot of the correct schedule and the edit status so you can explain the issue.

See Google’s explanation of edit statuses. Do not create a duplicate listing to solve an hours problem.

5. Check the public result and other customer information

After the change is accepted, reopen the public Search or Maps listing and check the weekly and special hours. Compare them with your website, shop signage and other customer-facing information. Recheck before holidays or a schedule change. A post announcing holiday hours can explain the change, but it does not replace updating the hours field.

What if you cannot edit the profile?

Check that you are using the account linked to the correct business. Some changes may require verification. If you do not own or manage the listing, use Google’s appropriate ownership or suggestion process. Never share passwords or verification codes with someone offering to fix hours.

Need help identifying your next three improvements?

I’m Shaheer Ali, based in Malappuram. I offer a free public-profile review with three priority improvements for businesses across Kerala. Send your business name, town or service area, Google Maps link and main concern. No account access is required for this initial review.

Implementation and monthly management are paid services, with scope and fees agreed first. A public review cannot reveal private edit status or guarantee that Google will approve a change.
